Rising Deku tips for Free Battle and ranked
Published guides do not include a labbed Rising Deku combo route or a ranked tier list. The advice that does hold up is system advice: win the four-action read, spend the Rising gauge on purpose, and tag during a string. Nothing below is a personal match result. Frame counts and damage numbers are not in the sources, so they are not printed here.
Before the first Free Battle
Confirm the slot is actually unlocked. Clearing Story Mode, which English coverage identifies with the finale "We Are Here" plus the ending, adds him to Free Battle. The Early Unlock Pack does it sooner and also adds All For One Chaos. Details are in the unlock guide. Steam lists single-player, online PvP, and shared or split-screen PvP. The US product page lists offline play for 1–2 players and online play for 1–2 players. The "3v3" in the marketing is three fighters on a team, controlled with switches, not a six-player lobby.
Ranked rules are the gap. The pages checked do not name a ranked ladder, a rank icon, a ban list, or a rule that Rising Deku is restricted online. Tips for "ranked" here mean the same reads you would take into a player match. If a playlist adds its own timer or character limit, that rule was not in these sources.
Play the triangle before the Quirk list
Official articles and the tutorial preview agree that the fight is a read among Target Combo, Counter Attack, and Unblockable Attack, with Guard as the fourth core action.
- A chasing Target Combo is the answer to an Unblockable, in the preview's triangle.
- A Counter Attack is the answer to a Target Combo.
- An Unblockable is the answer to a committed Counter Attack, and it is described as piercing guards and armored counters. It is a bad panic button if the opponent is ready to mash a chasing string.
- If you are stuck blocking, the European article says a switch during guard can flip the exchange into an attack.
- If you are already hitting, switch during the combo. That extend-by-tag is the published way to keep pressure, and it does not depend on a Rising-only route.
Buildings and stage objects can break a chase. The same preview notes getting stuck behind cover while trying to close distance. Treat the arena as part of the read, not as an empty box.
Use the Rising gauge as a decision
The gauge fills when you hit and when you are hit, so a losing sequence still charges it. Spending it gives the published boosts: higher attack power, faster movement, faster recovery, and stronger Quirk skills, plus whatever Rising Action and Rising Ability that fighter has. The Japanese page is clear that the state is on a timer. Popping it at the first pixel of gauge is legal. Holding it is also legal. Sources do not name the timer's length for Izuku Midoriya Rising.
Ultimate Rising is the automatic version. When both partners are defeated and you are last, it turns on by itself, and it is stronger and longer than a Rising you chose. Two follow-on readings come straight from those rules, and they are readings, not match logs:
- A three-character Plus Ultra Combo needs living partners and more than one gauge. If you are already on Ultimate Rising, that team chain is gone. The single-character Plus Ultra is the finisher you still have.
- Sources do not describe stacking a manual Rising on top of Ultimate Rising. Plan as if the automatic state replaces the decision, rather than adding a second bar you can spend.
Normal Mode, the simplified X-button chain, will perform combos, swaps, and Plus Ultra for you. It is an official ease option. Whether a ranked room allows it is not stated.
What version 3.00 changed for this slot
On 7 May 2026 the character-balance notes increased Plus Ultra ending lag for Izuku Midoriya Rising. After that patch, ending a sequence on his Plus Ultra leaves more recovery than it did before. The notes do not say how many frames, or whether the move is still safe against every character. They also set the aerial chase of his Quirk Skill 4 to the same performance as Izuku Midoriya Full Cowling 100%'s skill. If you already know that Full Cowling aerial, the patch says the Rising aerial chase should now behave like it. The ground version of Quirk Skill 4 is not described. Move names stay unpublished. See the moves overview before trusting an old smash list.
Leave One's Justice 2 sheets in the other game. All's Justice rebuilt the fight around the four core actions, tag switches, Plus Ultra Combo, and the Rising gauge. A combo that was true in One's Justice 2 is not evidence about this slot.
Team notes that stay inside the sources
All For One Chaos unlocks on the same paths as Rising Deku, so both can be on a team once you have finished the story or bought the pack. No official article calls that pairing the best team. Overlay Full Style is a separate download and is not granted by the Early Unlock Pack. The other Deku listings can be picked without the story clear, which matters if you want a Deku on the team while We Are Here is still ahead of you. The form comparison keeps those slots straight.
